Yakoke for visiting Windrider Farm Choctaw Horse Conservation!

***SEE EVENTS PAGE FOR EXCITING NEWS IN JUNE! ***

Halito (hello in Choctaw)! We hope you find our information included here about the Choctaw Horse interesting.  The Choctaw is a rare strain of Colonial Spanish Horse also known as Spanish mustang or simply mustang. Windrider Farm is focused on providing high-quality care to our equines while promoting and educating about this unique horse breed.  We are tribal members of the Choctaw Nation of OK and our roots run deep with these horses.  Our people, the Chahta, have long had a connection to these unique horses.

Welcome to our final 2012 foal!  This 100% Choctaw stud colt was born Friday, March 9, 2012 and is out of Ricochet's Angel Forever, SSMA# 2440, HOA# pending by our former herd sire, Windrider's Runner, SSMA# 2744, HOA# pending who now stands at stud at Cumberland Valley Equine Service in south central PA owned by Dr. Robert Kraybill.  Runner has moved onto new exciting adventure in an excellent conservation home with two young Choctaw mares awaiting him.

No name on this colt yet but we are thinking something with Chief in it to honor my maternal great grandfather, Principal Chief of the Choctaw Nation Gilbert Wesley Dukes. He was chief of our tribe from 1900-1902 and his influence within our family, culture and tribe is felt to this day! See his pic on our Contact Us page.

Dr. Robert Kraybill & wife, Patricia of Cumberland Valley Equine Service will be bringing their mares, Windrider's Shalontaki "Cricket" & Windrider's Chahta Chunkash "Choctaw Heart" who goes by "Kashi" to Choctaw Days at the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) in Washington, DC on Sat., June 23, 2012 if all approvals for permits, etc. go through. The Kraybills purchased Cricket and Kashi from us back in 2009 and are now avid Choctaw Horse conservationists! Come meet the girls, enjoy Choctaw culture and experience the Song for the Horse Nation exhibit. Choctaw Days runs from June 21- 24, 2012 yet the horses will be a one day event that Sat. Promises to be an amazing time, we can't wait to be there!

Progression's Pearl 2011 Choctaw & Huasteca filly
Halito (hello in Choctaw) to our earlier 2012 addition at Windrider Farm! This Choctaw filly greeted us on Jan. 29, 2012. She is out of Goblin's Prescription (90% Choctaw/10% Huasteca) by our herd sire, Windrider's Runner (100% Choctaw) which makes her 95% Choctaw/5% Huasteca.

Every new foal born over 95% Choctaw is important to saving these rare and special equines. Goblin's Prescription is an outstanding broodmare and we are very fortunate she has produced such a beautiful little girl. Goblin is the featured Choctaw Horse on website for the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy at www.albc-usa.org. She is important to the conservation effort for color, type and bloodlines.

This beautiful "iskitini chahta isuba" (little Choctaw Horse) finally has a name, Windrider's Oktohbichi Oktalonli "Misty Blue Eyed" and we call her "Misty". Her left eye is sky blue and she is abolutely beautiful. She has an outgoing and sweet, inquisitive personality. She walked right up to us for a big "halito" (hello) within hours of birth and continues to be a social butterfly!

We hope to see you again! Check back later for new updates to our website. There's much more to come! Chi pisa la chike (I'll see you later in Choctaw)!
